One of the UK’s leading universities has recently updated its fire system with a high performance fire detection and alarm network powered by intelligent panels from global fire systems manufacturer, Advanced.
Heriot-Watt is one of Scotland’s foremost universities and has been constantly expanding its Riccarton Campus since it acquired the site in 1969. Today, it is one of the most modern and technically advanced educational establishments in the UK, with 1,600 self-catering residential spaces in addition to the academic buildings. An MxPro 4 system was specified, covering both academic and residential buildings at the 380-acre Riccarton campus, which houses 8,200 staff and students. The system also uses Advanced’s ipGateway to link the Riccarton system to its other main site in Galashiels.
The 60 panel network supplied by Advanced is built on its leading MxPro, multiprotocol panels. MxPro offers customers a choice of two panel ranges, four detector protocols and a completely open installer network that enjoys free training and support. MxPro panels can be used in single loop, single panel format or easily configured into high speed, 200 panel networks covering huge areas. Advanced’s legendary ease of installation and configuration and wide peripheral range make it customisable to almost any application.
ipGateway allows users to securely access the Heriot-Watt University fire system using a standard web browser. By gathering real time network data, the state of each device is displayed and the user can enable/disable zones and devices, enable/disable reset, mute and silence/resound sounders across the system. ipGateway can also be configured to react to events on the network by sending emails to configured recipients.
